Robinhood CEO: Crypto-related contracts may surpass sports to become the main category in prediction markets in the coming years
Odaily reports that Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev stated that crypto-related contracts currently account for a significant share of Robinhood's prediction market business, and he expects the proportion of sports-related contracts to decline to a minority in the coming years, with non-sports categories such as crypto becoming an important direction for further expansion of prediction markets.
Robinhood's prediction market business has seen notable recent growth. The company disclosed that event contract revenue reached $156 million in the second quarter of 2026, representing a more than 10x year-over-year increase, with trading volume reaching 13.6 billion contracts; event contract trading volume in August was 4.7 billion contracts, up approximately 15x year-over-year. Tenev stated that sports contracts previously served primarily to attract users and build liquidity, while prediction markets are now expanding into more categories including crypto. (Decrypt)
