Holds approximately $24.7 billion in Bitcoin, U.S. House committee advances bill to make Strategic Bitcoin Reserve permanent

Odaily reports: Bitcoin News posted on X platform that the U.S. House Financial Services Committee on September 16 advanced the "American Reserve Modernization Act of 2026" by a vote of 28 to 21, which seeks to codify into federal law the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve established by Trump through executive order, and would require the government to hold confiscated Bitcoin for at least 20 years.

The bill would also require public proof of reserves, independent audits, and a study on increasing Bitcoin holdings without raising taxes, government borrowing, or the federal deficit; the bill still needs to pass the full House and the Senate. Arkham Intelligence estimates that the U.S. government holds approximately 324,500 Bitcoin, worth about $24.7 billion, but the exact size has not yet been confirmed by unified government disclosure.
