Power Supply Cut by Three-Quarters as Ethiopia Restricts Bitcoin Miners' Electricity Use

Odaily: Due to the impact of El Niño, water inflow to Ethiopia's hydroelectric dams has declined. Ethiopian Electric Power Corp has reduced the electricity supply to the Bitcoin mining industry to one-quarter of the original level. Data shows that Bitcoin mining companies contributed 35% of the company's revenue in the past fiscal year, with electricity consumption close to one-third of the country's total power generation capacity of 9,730 megawatts.
