Anthropic's AI warning may weigh on chip stocks, but long-term impact is expected to be limited
Odaily reports: Market observers note that calls by AI executives to slow down technological development could pressure chipmaker and supply chain stocks in the short term, but given that computing infrastructure spending remains strong, the long-term impact may be limited. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 index has fallen more than 4% from its record high set in June, while U.S. chip stocks have dropped 14% and Asian tech stocks have declined nearly 8%.
The benchmark S&P 500 index and the MSCI global stock index both edged up about 0.6% during the same period. Some investors believe that a slowdown in AI development could ultimately have a positive impact on the industry, giving companies more time to generate returns from infrastructure already built.
