Ethereum Hegotá Upgrade Launches Centralized EIP Evaluation, Protocol Team Sets Goal for L1 Quantum Resistance by End of 2029

2026-09-07 15:01

Odaily reported that the Ethereum Foundation (EF) stated in a post on X that the Protocol Cluster has published two articles conducting a systematic evaluation of the next network upgrade, Hegotá. Among them, "Hegotá EIP Opinion Post and Tier List" evaluates and ranks the 62 currently proposed EIPs, marking the first time the team has issued a unified EIP rating list for a single network upgrade.

According to the announcement, approximately 60 researchers, engineers, and domain experts from 9 teams under the Protocol Cluster participated in this review, submitting a total of 397 ratings and engaging in live discussions on proposals with divergent opinions. The other article outlines the current and future priority directions for Ethereum's protocol layer, including efforts to make Ethereum L1 quantum-resistant by December 2029.

The Ethereum Foundation stated that these upgrade plans, long-term technical goals, and the shared priorities of the Protocol Cluster will serve as references for finalizing the scope of the Hegotá upgrade and the ratings of each EIP.

Additionally, the Protocol Cluster will hold an AMA on Reddit's r/ethereum community on September 16 at 14:00 UTC, where discussions will center around the Hegotá EIP ratings and the development priorities of the Ethereum protocol.
