Non-compliant transfers will be prohibited; Thailand's cryptocurrency "Travel Rule" to take effect on February 27, 2027

2026-09-03 03:29

Odaily reported that the Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand has officially finalized the cryptocurrency "Travel Rule," requiring digital asset operators to identify the sender and recipient of every crypto transaction. The new regulation will take effect on February 27, 2027. Operators will be required to establish transfer risk policies, collect identity data of customers and counterparties, transmit sender and recipient information along with transfers, and retain transaction records for at least five years—during the first two years of which, records must be made available to regulators upon request at any time. Operators must also verify whether users have control over funds in self-custody wallets. This rule aims to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing, and to align Thailand's regulatory standards with the international anti-money laundering standards set by the Financial Action Task Force.
