Some anti-government figures welcomed the US-Israeli military action, hoping it would drive regime change in Iran; others, however, fear civilian casualties and regional instability, and oppose any form of external military intervention. Arezo Rashidian, an activist who has long supported Iran's former crown prince Reza Pahlavi, said many who once backed military action now feel disappointed, as "the hoped-for regime change never materialized." She noted that as hostilities have subsided, Iran's domestic security controls are being tightened once again, and citizens have become more cautious about discussing politics or participating in protests. Meanwhile, anti-war advocates argue that some Iranian-Americans who supported military intervention held unrealistic expectations about the war's outcome and underestimated the lessons of wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya. Rather than bridging political divides among the Iranian diaspora, the war has further deepened mistrust between communities of different generations and political stances.
