South Korean President Lee Jae-myung to Meet Lee Jae-yong, Discussing Samsung and SK Semiconductor Cluster Investment in the Southwestern Region

Odaily News: Lee Jae-myung has already met with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, and plans to meet with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong on the 26th, followed by consecutive talks with Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun. The discussions will center on topics such as investment in the southwestern semiconductor cluster.

During the talks, execution plans for three major super projects totaling 4,755 trillion won, including semiconductors, physical AI, and AI data centers, will be the focus. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix announced plans in June to build semiconductor clusters in the southwestern region, with electricity and water supply systems also included in the discussions.

The meeting between Lee Jae-myung and Chung Eui-sun will place the 9 trillion won Saemangeum AI data center and robotics cluster project at the core of the agenda, while also discussing obstacles to progress such as permits, electricity, and land use. Exceptions to the 52-hour workweek for R&D personnel, pressure from U.S. investment, and labor issues will also be up for discussion. (ZDNet)
