Korea to Launch New Securities Market in Mid-November, Marking a Key Turning Point for the STO Market
Odaily News The Korea Exchange (KRX) plans to launch a new securities market on November 16, where assets such as artworks, real estate, and music copyrights can be traded like stocks through securities accounts.
It is reported that the Korea Exchange is currently advancing the construction of the related trading system and preparations for market participants. A six-week simulated trading period will run from October 6 to November 13. The official market opening time may be adjusted based on the progress of financial regulators' approval of listed products. Once the market opens, investors will be able to buy and sell through securities company accounts, with trading hours aligned with the stock market.
Analysts believe that South Korea's security token offering (STO) industry is at a critical turning point. Although the new securities to be listed in November will initially be issued and registered using traditional electronic securities methods, tokenized securities issued and managed on blockchain-based distributed ledgers will gradually be implemented after the relevant laws officially take effect in February 2027.
