汇丰香港:港元稳定币落地准备工作如期推进,详情将于短期内公布

2026-08-19 13:17

Odaily Planet Daily News: Recent market commentary has suggested that the two first-issued Hong Kong dollar stablecoin license holders hold divergent attitudes, with HSBC reportedly taking a passive stance, possibly due to direct conflicts with its core business. In response to this speculation, an HSBC Hong Kong spokesperson exclusively told CLS reporter that the bank continues to actively expand in Hong Kong's digital asset space. "We are on track to launch in the second half of 2026, with preparations progressing as planned. Further details will be announced shortly."

The spokesperson stated that HSBC Hong Kong's decision to issue a Hong Kong dollar stablecoin stems from market demand for digital currencies and the goal of enhancing payment efficiency, while also reflecting its commitment to serving the digital asset ecosystem. In the initial phase, the use cases will focus on enabling HSBC customers to conduct on-chain P2P and P2M payments in a secure manner, as well as investing in tokenized products. Although retail payments in Hong Kong are already highly efficient, stablecoins offer consumers an additional option to participate in the expanding digital ecosystem. This initiative will complement HSBC Hong Kong's existing tokenized deposits, digital bonds, and gold tokens, further enhancing its product portfolio. (CLS)
