First slot duration shortened to 350 milliseconds, effective on Solana mainnet at Epoch 1020

Odaily News, Brennan Watt posted on X platform that Solana's mainnet has activated the first slot duration reduction, targeting a decrease from the current 400 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds, which will officially take effect at Epoch 1020. Watt stated that some SDK constants, such as DEFAULT_MS_PER_SLOT, have not yet been updated to the new value and will be pushed in subsequent versions. The transition period may impact applications that rely on SDK constants matching actual mainnet conditions. Developers will need to manually determine whether features are enabled based on the Epoch boundary when the change takes effect. Watt mentioned that the long-term plan is to put these parameters on-chain for client queries, but for now, to launch the reduction feature as early as possible, this transition period is necessary.
