Odaily News: On July 23, the European Union adopted its 21st package of sanctions against Russia, expanding trading restrictions to 14 crypto service platforms based in Georgia, Panama, the UAE, the Marshall Islands, Kyrgyzstan, and Belarus, and adding four new measures targeting the A7 Russian ruble network.
The new rules take effect on August 25, banning Russian and Belarusian citizens from holding, controlling, or holding positions in MiCA crypto asset service providers within the EU, with the scope extended to services such as consulting, portfolio management, and transferring crypto assets on behalf of clients.
The new regulations also allow the EU to impose comprehensive crypto trading bans on third countries that fail to prevent sanction-evasion activities. The list of affected countries is currently empty, including only third countries that the EU Council determines have persistently and systematically failed to prevent the provision of crypto asset services or the operation of related platforms.
