Odaily Planet Daily News: Ethereum developer kevaundray has submitted EIP-12188, a proposal to shorten the consensus layer block retention window to reduce node storage pressure. The proposal is currently in the public review phase and has received support from some Ethereum client developers. Developer DApplion expressed support for the proposal, and Lighthouse client contributor michaelsproul believes the adjustment will not significantly impact Lighthouse operations. The proposal notes that as Ethereum's historical data demand changes, reducing the consensus layer historical block retention time can optimize node resource usage. During discussion, it was mentioned that pruning execution layer historical data may affect some long-running nodes that provide old block data, but developers believe this does not threaten network security or normal node operation. EIP-12188 has not yet been merged and still requires further review and community discussion.
