Iranian Official: Deadline Set for US to Fully Implement Memorandum of Understanding
Odaily News – A senior Iranian official said in an interview that Iran has set a deadline of several weeks for the US to fully implement the Iran-US Memorandum of Understanding, and that Iran will not wait indefinitely for the US to continue the maritime blockade. The official stated that due to the "stalled efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire agreement with the US," Iran has decided to shift its policy "from defensive to fully offensive." The official added that if diplomatic efforts fail, "Iranians are prepared to escalate tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and the region. Iran's timeline will be communicated to the US through mediating countries."
The US and Iran released the official text of the Memorandum of Understanding on June 17, with Article 3 stating that the US and Iran commit to negotiate and reach a final agreement within a maximum of 60 days. On August 17, the 60-day negotiation window set by the Memorandum of Understanding expired. Due to serious disagreements over issues such as the Strait of Hormuz, US-Iran negotiations reached a stalemate with no substantive progress. (CCTV News)
