Odaily News: Bits of Gold, Israel's largest licensed crypto brokerage, has suffered a data breach in which hackers stole the personal information of approximately 200,000 customers, putting the platform's entire user base at risk. The company obtained Israel's first virtual asset service provider license in September 2022 and received approval in April 2026 to issue the BILS stablecoin, which is pegged 1:1 to the shekel. The type of stolen data has not yet been disclosed, but crypto brokerages typically collect sensitive information such as identification documents, proof of address, and financial details in accordance with KYC regulations. While cold wallets can protect digital assets, they cannot safeguard customer identity files stored on servers. Historical cases show that similar data breaches are frequently exploited for phishing, SIM swapping, and targeted social engineering attacks, with security risks extending beyond the platform itself.
