Iran is close to reaching an agreement with Oman on managing the Strait of Hormuz

Odaily News: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on August 8 that Iran is currently in talks with Oman regarding the legal framework, management methods, and the determination of shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, and the two sides are very close to reaching an agreement. However, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz also depends on other conditions, including the United States making amends for its violations of the US-Iran memorandum of understanding.

Araghchi stated that the Strait of Hormuz previously had a traffic separation scheme, but Iran believes the existing routes are no longer suitable for shipping and cannot accept their continued use. Therefore, it is necessary to plan a new navigation mechanism, which involves complex technical and legal issues. The two sides are currently discussing a temporary shipping route. Before the new official shipping route is finalized, a temporary lane will first be established, serving as the basis for the future official route. On this matter, the military departments of Iran and Oman have already begun consultations based on existing nautical charts. Once the relevant negotiations are completed and final conclusions are reached, the new shipping route will be determined. (Jin10)
