Transfer delays of up to 24 hours as Brazil's central bank tightens cryptocurrency transfer oversight

2026-08-08 11:08
Odaily News: Brazil's central bank has announced new anti-fraud rules that will delay certain cryptocurrency transfers by up to 24 hours. The new regulations, set to take effect next year, apply to transfers exceeding $10,000 sent to overseas virtual asset companies or self-custody wallets, with the threshold calculated based on either individual transactions or the cumulative daily transfer amount per customer. The central bank noted that virtual assets, including stablecoins, are increasingly being used to rapidly move funds derived from financial scams. The measure is not an asset freeze and will not permanently block transfers, and it may also apply to other transactions requiring stricter scrutiny.
