US Senate Passes Temporary Funding Bill, Likely to Avoid Government Shutdown

2026-08-08 09:29

Odaily News – The U.S. Senate passed a temporary measure on Saturday to fund federal agencies through December 11, aiming to avoid a catastrophic federal government shutdown weeks before the November midterm elections. According to Fox News, the vote was 90 in favor and 6 against, with Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) abstaining. This does not necessarily fully prevent a government shutdown, but it helps avert one on October 1, the start of the government's new fiscal year. The House of Representatives will still need to align on the bill after returning from recess. (Jin Shi)
