Odaily Planet Daily News JPMorgan noted that the second-quarter earnings season is in its late stages, with approximately 80%-85% of companies in the US and Europe having reported results. Corporate earnings were strong this quarter, with both the US and Europe seeing EPS beats, and the breadth of companies exceeding expectations was wide. The proportion of companies in both the US and Europe reporting EPS above market consensus has risen notably. Despite market expectations already being elevated heading into the season, the blended EPS of S&P 500 constituents continued to trend higher. The share of companies lowering earnings guidance has fallen to its lowest level since 2021.

By region, US and European corporate earnings grew 25% and 23% year-over-year, respectively, both above consensus expectations. Revenue growth was also healthy, with the US and Europe posting increases of 14% and 10% year-over-year, respectively. At the sector level, a large portion of earnings growth in both regions came from the energy sector, primarily boosted by rising energy prices driven by geopolitical conflicts. The financial sector was also a key driver of earnings growth in both the US and Europe, with the technology sector making a notable contribution as well.
