Odaily Planet Daily News: Amazon Web Services (AWS) has recently asked its engineering teams to reduce server CPU resource waste, ensuring it can meet the growing capacity demands of customers for its EC2 cloud server services in the future.

According to insiders, AWS management told engineers during a meeting in May that the company needs to conserve computing resources as much as possible, including server capacity running on central processing units (CPUs), as well as AI chip computing resources that have been in short supply for an extended period.

The sources said AWS is currently facing tight cloud computing capacity, especially amid the rapid growth in demand for AI infrastructure, as enterprise customers compete more fiercely for computing resources. The company hopes to free up more available capacity by optimizing utilization of existing infrastructure.

This internal directive reflects the computing power pressure that major cloud service providers are facing from the AI wave. As generative AI applications expand, cloud vendors not only need large quantities of AI acceleration chips like GPUs, but also additional CPU, storage, and network resources to support the overall computing load.

As one of the world's largest cloud service providers, AWS has continued to expand data center investment in recent years, but the rapid growth of its AI business has pushed the entire industry into a phase of "computing power shortage."
