美联储威廉姆斯:预计通胀将放缓,若情况未实现美联储将采取行动
Odaily News: Fed's Williams stated that he remains optimistic that inflationary pressures will gradually ease, but if that does not materialize, the Fed will not hesitate to raise interest rates to ensure price pressures return to target levels.
In an interview with Reuters last Friday, Williams said that if energy prices and trade tariffs have peaked and the economy maintains its solid momentum, "I think some of the major factors that have been pushing inflation higher over the past year and a half or so will no longer play as significant a role, and the forces of inflation cooling that we observed earlier should resurface." He added: "I am closely monitoring changes in core inflation data over the coming months, to see whether this aligns with inflation trending toward 2% and continuing to decline, thereby ensuring we can achieve the long-term stable 2% inflation target by 2028."
He also stated: "My personal forecast is that inflation will decline in the second half of this year, and fall further next year." Williams reiterated that the current stance of interest rate policy is "well-positioned" to bring inflation back to target levels. However, he noted: "If we are not on a trajectory to bring inflation down to 2%... then taking action to get us back on the path to 2% inflation would be entirely appropriate." (Jin Shi)
