Coldcard attack fallout intensifies as Galaxy research head says "copycats" are targeting remaining seed phrases

Odaily Planet Daily News Galaxy research head Alex Thorn stated that the attack surrounding Coldcard wallets continues to develop, with more smaller-scale attackers and copycats now emerging to target the remaining Coldcard seed phrases. He noted that through assistance, the identity of a depositing user from one of the attack incidents has been confirmed, and the related funds were transferred out before they could be frozen on the Duel platform. Moreover, the funds involved do not belong to the three major waves of attacks previously identified by Galaxy Research.

Earlier, the suspected security incident involving Coldcard drew market attention, as multiple researchers discovered abnormal fund transfers in some wallet addresses generated by Coldcard. Galaxy Research is still continuously tracking the attacking addresses and has reminded users who still use the relevant wallet seeds to take security measures as soon as possible. This incident has also further highlighted the importance of hardware wallet security, private key management, and self-custody risk prevention.
