Analyst: Trump's Cancellation of Strike on Iran, Saudi Diplomatic Mediation and Iranian Pressure Likely Key Factors

Odaily News Agency reports that Trump has announced the cancellation of a strike on Iran, citing requests for a delay from Iran and other Middle Eastern countries. Earlier, sources said Saudi Crown Prince called Trump to express concerns. Military analyst and former U.S. Air Force Colonel Cedric Leighton believes both Saudi Arabia and Iran have ample reasons to avoid further escalation of regional conflict. Leighton pointed out that Saudi Arabia bears economic pressure due to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, and as a key Gulf ally of the U.S., its diplomatic mediation played a significant role in Trump's decision to postpone the strike.

He also noted that Iran is under pressure from the blockade of the strait and economic damage, and after five months of conflict, may also be buying time while striving to survive. "If there is indeed diplomatic pressure from Iran... I think this may reflect that Iran is trying to buy time," Leighton said.
