White House Crypto Advisor Says Democrats' Reasons for Opposing CLARITY Act Ethics Provisions "Don't Hold Up"

Odaily reported that White House crypto advisor Patrick Witt posted on platform X, stating that the Democratic opposition to the ethics provisions in the CLARITY Act appears to take two main forms: (1) if the ethics provisions cannot be enforced by state attorneys general, then they are meaningless; (2) if the ethics provisions do not hold President Trump accountable for his prior involvement in crypto businesses, then such a clause is unacceptable.

Patrick Witt stated that if you support point (1), you are essentially arguing that all current federal ethics laws are meaningless, as none of these laws can currently be enforced by state attorneys general. If you support point (2), then there is virtually no measure that can meet your demands, as the approach you advocate would clearly violate the Constitution (see Article I, Section 9 of the U.S. Constitution).

Patrick Witt
