Democratic Senator Angela Alsobrooks Opposes Ethical Clause Details of the Clarity Act Proposed by the White House
Odaily Odaily reported that crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett posted on platform X, stating that Democratic Senator Angela Alsobrooks has informed her that the White House's proposal to have the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) enforce the ethics clauses in the Clarity Act is an "unserious offer." If this becomes the only enforcement mechanism, she will not support the bill.
Alsobrooks also stated: "But we will continue to work on this basis to try and reach an agreement that holds all relevant parties accountable."
Alsobrooks was one of two Democratic senators who voted in May to advance the Clarity Act through the Senate Banking Committee. She previously stated that her continued support for the bill would depend on whether the final text includes strong ethical constraints.
Currently, bipartisan discussions on the Clarity Act are ongoing on Capitol Hill, with the ethics issue seen as the final obstacle to reaching a compromise.
