Moonshot AI Suspends New Subscriptions for Kimi K3, Demand Exceeds Computing Capacity
Odaily Planet Daily News AI startup Moonshot AI recently released the open-weight model Kimi K3, claiming it can compete with leading systems from OpenAI and Anthropic at a lower cost. The company also stated that the model can more efficiently convert computing power into AI capabilities.
After the launch of Kimi K3, Moonshot AI suspended new subscriptions because the demand was so strong that it exceeded the company's computing capacity. The model had already sparked widespread discussion on the Chinese internet prior to this.
On Weibo, topics related to Kimi K3 once rose to the trending list, with discussions focusing on whether open-weight models can challenge the proprietary systems of US companies, as well as changes in the computing power demands of China's AI industry. Other topics focused on the comparison between Kimi K3 and Anthropic's Claude.
Elon Musk also stated that the initial training of xAI's next-generation Grok 4.6 model is in its final stages, and a 2 trillion parameter version may surpass Kimi. Moonshot AI's official Weibo account subsequently responded: "Welcome to the 2 Trillion+ Club."
