Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron have halted in-house CXL controller development, shifting to outsourcing.

Odaily reports that Citrini analyst jukan posted on X, stating that the world's top three memory chip manufacturers have stopped developing in-house Compute Express Link (CXL) controllers, turning instead to chips designed by external fabless companies.

Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron have all scaled back or canceled their plans to commercialize CXL expansion device controllers. Micron has taken the lead in stopping its self-developed controller R&D and adopted PrimeMass's solution. SK Hynix has also informed key partners of the termination of its internal CXL controller development project and reassigned relevant personnel to the processing-in-memory (PIM) direction. Samsung Electronics is only using its self-developed CXL controller internally within the R&D team for research purposes, and reportedly procures controllers for its external products from fabless suppliers. Industry insiders indicate that Samsung has removed its self-developed controller from its formal commercialization projects, retaining it only for cutting-edge R&D initiatives.
