Paul Chan: Hong Kong to Provide Approximately 180,000 PFLOPS of Computing Power by 2032, AI Strategy Enters Systemic Planning Phase
Odaily Odaily reports that Hong Kong's Financial Secretary, Paul Chan, published a blog post stating that artificial intelligence is being applied across various levels, including evolving from chat-based dialogues to embodied intelligence in the physical world, moving from the digital realm to the physical world, and permeating different aspects of life. The Hong Kong AI+ and Industry Development Strategy Committee has discussed key aspects such as scientific research and innovation, data flow and security, computing power construction, application scenarios, talent cultivation, and capital investment. This marks the transition of Hong Kong's AI strategy from individual project advancement to a phase of systemic planning. In terms of computing power, Hong Kong is expected to provide approximately 180,000 PFLOPS by 2032, equivalent to 36 times its current total computing power. Last year, 56% of the investments made by the Hong Kong Investment Corporation Limited across various projects were directed towards hard technology including AI, and efforts are underway to promote the ecosystem of the RISC-V open-source architecture.
