Gate responds to recent security incident: Always on the user's side, will fully cooperate with police and third-party agencies, doing everything possible to help users recover funds
Odaily reports: Gate has issued a statement regarding the recent customer fund incident, acknowledging that its initial communication with users was inadequate and failed to prioritize user concerns. Gate’s initial assessment was entirely based on factual evidence: the applicant provided highly matching information including account email, phone number, real-name verification, complete transaction records, and authentic Alipay transaction screen recordings. This information was highly accurate, and the applicant passed liveness verification. After sending email and text notifications, the user raised no objections following a 2-day review protection period plus a 24-hour withdrawal protection period. Additionally, the application IP was from the same region as the account’s recent access IP. Based on cross-verification of multiple data points, Gate made a judgment of suspected authenticity at that time.
Despite the inadequate initial communication, Gate’s support for users has never ceased. Following the incident, a dedicated task force comprising security, compliance, legal, and business teams was immediately established to create an exclusive support group for the user. Currently, incident reconstruction, device security analysis, real-time tracking of fund flows have been completed, and assistance has been provided to the user in filing a police report and supplying comprehensive documentation.
Meanwhile, Gate has engaged a professional legal team and mobilized business resources to actively communicate with Tether and relevant exchanges, aiming to freeze the involved funds.
Regarding security mechanisms, Gate reiterates that it has always maintained a multi-layered protection system, including multi-channel advance notifications, systematic risk control screening, manual four-eye review, and strict time-based protections. Liveness verification serves only as an auxiliary measure, not the sole basis. The 10.x private network IP appearing in logs represents normal operations by auditors.
Furthermore, following rigorous investigation, this incident does not involve platform data breaches or misconduct by former employees. Certain sensitive information provided by the applicant was not previously held by the platform. Security is an ongoing journey. Gate will conduct a thorough review of this incident and continuously optimize its processes. Regardless of the final investigation outcome, Gate will fully cooperate with police and third-party agencies, doing everything possible to help users recover their funds.
