Poll: U.S.-Iran Conflict Deemed 'Not Worth the Cost,' Trump Approval Drops to 36%
Odaily Odaily Reports: A latest Focaldata poll indicates that a majority of U.S. voters believe the Trump administration's military actions in Iran were "not worth the cost." The survey was conducted from June 26 to 30, covering 1,795 registered voters, with a margin of error of ±2.7%.
The data shows that 58% of respondents believe the war is not worth its current cost. Meanwhile, 44% of voters think the conflict has left the U.S. in a weaker position in its relationship with Iran, with only 31% believing the U.S. has become stronger as a result.
Regarding the so-called "memorandum of understanding" between Washington and Tehran, the poll shows widespread skepticism among voters. Approximately 66% of respondents believe the agreement has done little to improve peace and stability in the Middle East, and may even increase instability or the risk of conflict; only about 20% believe it contributes to achieving peace.
The poll shows that only 36% of voters approve of Trump's job performance, a decrease of 2 percentage points from the previous month. Among them, support from independent voters dropped to 21%, a decline of 8 percentage points month-over-month, which is a more pronounced drop.
Ahead of the upcoming November 2026 midterm elections, this trend puts pressure on the Republican Party. In the survey, 44% of respondents said they would support the Democratic candidate in the congressional elections, 6 percentage points higher than the 38% who supported the Republican candidate; a month earlier, the Democratic lead was 4 percentage points.
