Oman: Ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz may be subject to fees
OdailyOdaily Planet Daily reports that according to sources, Oman has informed European officials that the Strait of Hormuz cannot return to its pre-war state, and transiting ships may need to pay certain fees. The sources stated that Omani officials said they will always comply with international maritime law, but added that services related to pollution cleanup or ship navigation in the strait may incur fees. It is currently unclear whether Oman indicated that all these fees would be mandatory.
Sources said that Oman is analyzing the fee systems used at various global chokepoints, including the Strait of Malacca in Asia, where there are currently no mandatory shipping charges. Meanwhile, the United States, Europe, and Oman’s Gulf neighbors are increasingly concerned that Oman may establish a fee system for the Strait of Hormuz jointly with Iran. (Jin Shi)
