Sources: U.S. Trade Representative Informs Mexican Businesses That Era of Zero Tariffs Will Not Return
Odaily News: According to four industry sources familiar with the discussions, U.S. Trade Representative Greer has informed Mexico's automotive and steel industries that they should not expect the renegotiation of the USMCA to eliminate the tariffs imposed on their sectors by former President Trump. Greer made these remarks during a meeting in Mexico City on Monday with industry groups and other top business leaders. The meeting aimed to discuss objectives related to revising the USMCA with the Mexican President and Economy Minister, as the six-year review period for the agreement is set to expire on July 1. One of the sources who attended the relevant meetings stated, "Greer said the tariffs are here to stay. President Trump likes tariffs. We will never return to an era of zero tariffs." The source also mentioned that Greer told the automotive industry that U.S. officials are studying how to assist Mexico but did not provide specific details. (Jin10)
