Iran: The Strait of Hormuz is part of Iran's sovereignty, and control will not be relinquished
Odaily News According to a report by Iranian media Press TV, Ebrahim Azizi, former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, stated that Iran will never relinquish control over the Strait of Hormuz. He described this crucial waterway as an inseparable part of Iran's national sovereignty and stated it will always remain under Iran's complete jurisdiction. When asked whether Tehran would give up control of the strait, Azizi replied, "Absolutely not. This is our inalienable right. Iran will determine the right of passage, including granting permission for ships to pass through the strait." He indicated that this principle is being formalized through legislation. The senior lawmaker said, "We are introducing a bill in parliament, based on Article 110 of the Constitution, which covers the environment, maritime security, and national security. The armed forces will enforce this law." Tehran now believes that the ability to regulate maritime traffic through this waterway is crucial for restoring deterrence and maintaining long-term strategic leverage. (Jin10)
