Resolution to Limit Trump's War Powers Voted Down in U.S. House

The resolution demanded that President Trump end military actions against Iran and required congressional authorization before taking further military action against Iran. The resolution had already been defeated in the Senate the previous day. Democrats stated they would continue to introduce similar resolutions until the conflict with Iran ends or Congress authorizes continued military action. According to the U.S. Constitution, only Congress has the power to declare war. A 1973 act passed by the U.S. Congress stipulates that the U.S. President may only take limited military action without congressional authorization under a national emergency triggered by an attack on the United States or an imminent threat.
