Trump Threatens: If Powell Doesn't Leave in Time, I Will Fire Him
Odaily News According to an interview with Fox Business, former US President Donald Trump stated that if Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell does not leave his position in time, he will be fired. Trump added that he would not abandon the Department of Justice's investigation into Powell. Trump said, "If he doesn't leave on time, I'll have to fire him. I've been holding back from firing him. I want to fire him, but I hate causing controversy." "I hope there's no controversy. But he will be fired." Powell's term as Fed Chair is set to expire in May, but his term as a Governor runs until 2028.
Powell stated that if a successor is not confirmed by May, he will serve as interim Chair. Trump allies had hoped Powell would also resign from his Governor position at that time, but Powell said he has no intention of resigning until the Department of Justice's investigation into a renovation project is "truly and thoroughly concluded." Trump, however, hinted that there are no plans to end the investigation, saying "it must be fully investigated." (Jin10)
