OpenAI Releases "Child Safety Blueprint" to Strengthen Child Protection Framework in the AI Era

2026-04-08 12:03

Odaily News OpenAI has released a policy blueprint aimed at strengthening the United States' child protection framework in the AI era. The blueprint focuses on three priority areas: updating laws to address AI-generated or manipulated Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), improving reporting and coordination mechanisms for service providers to support more effective investigations, and embedding safety-by-design measures within AI systems to prevent and detect abuse.

The blueprint incorporated feedback from multiple agencies and experts during its development, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), the Attorney General Alliance and its AI Working Group co-chairs North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson and Utah Attorney General Derek Brown, as well as Thorn.

AI Working Group co-chairs Jeff Jackson and Derek Brown stated that the blueprint represents a significant step in aligning the tech industry's child safety practices with law enforcement realities, noting that effective generative AI protection requires a multi-layered defense system rather than a single technological solution. Attorney General Alliance Executive Director Karen White said the alliance is advancing practical solutions in the fields of AI and digital security by bringing together diverse stakeholders.
