F2Pool Co-founder Wang Chun: BTC Protocol Upgrades Should Not Adopt Practices Similar to "Omnibus Bills"

2026-04-04 13:19

Odaily News F2Pool co-founder Wang Chun stated in a post on the X platform that Bitcoin protocol upgrades should not adopt practices similar to the "omnibus bills" used by U.S. politicians to forcibly push through "some necessary but unpopular clauses." This is also a significant reason for his opposition to BIP-110 and BIP-54.

When responding to whether any issues were encountered when using fixes related to BIP-54, Wang Chun added that the "Timewarp" attack issue has existed for a long time and does not offer significant advantages for miners, as it is impossible to predict who will mine the next block. Its only practical use is to interfere with certain altcoins. Since it provides almost no practical benefit to Bitcoin miners, there is no urgent need to modify it. Furthermore, block verification efficiency has already been significantly improved due to libsecp256k1 and hardware upgrades, making protocol-level adjustments unnecessary. The "fake confirmed transaction" issue essentially relies on breaking the double SHA256 collision; if successful, it would mean that Bitcoin's core security has been compromised. Wang Chun added that none of the aforementioned issues are sufficient to drive protocol modifications. Currently, only the "duplicate transactions" issue has some value for fixing and might be one of the few changes worth implementing.
