China emphasizes that the Security Council must act prudently to avoid further escalation of the situation

2026-04-03 02:19

Odaily News: Ambassador Fu Cong, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, stated during an open Security Council meeting on cooperation between the UN and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) that the origin of the conflict in the Middle East lies in the military attacks launched by the United States and Israel against Iran. The fundamental way to prevent the situation from deteriorating is for the US and Israel to cease their military operations. China does not endorse Iran's attacks against GCC countries and condemns all indiscriminate attacks targeting innocent civilians and non-military objectives. The safety of shipping lanes should not be disrupted. Ambassador Fu Cong emphasized that the Security Council should uphold an objective, just, and fair stance. Under the current circumstances, authorizing member states to use force would be tantamount to legitimizing the illegal and abusive use of military power, which is bound to trigger further escalation of the situation and lead to severe consequences. The Security Council must act with caution and play a positive role in de-escalating tensions and restoring dialogue and negotiations. (CCTV International News)
