U.S. Government Shutdown May Last Longer Than Expected, Funding Bill Unlikely to Pass via Expedited Procedure
Odaily News: U.S. House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries stated that they will not assist Republicans in passing the federal government funding bill via an expedited procedure. U.S. media pointed out that Jeffries' remarks indicate that the U.S. government shutdown may last longer than expected. The U.S. Senate passed the funding bill for the remaining fiscal year for several federal departments on January 30th, which will now be sent to the House of Representatives for review. However, the House is currently in recess and may vote on the funding bill as early as February 2nd. It is reported that funding for the operations of several federal departments, including the U.S. State Department and the Pentagon, was exhausted on January 30th, leading to a partial "shutdown" of the U.S. federal government starting at midnight on January 31st.
