Dragonfly Partner: Data Shows Increasing Frequency of Violent Attacks Against Crypto Community, Most Severe in Western Europe and Asia-Pacific
Odaily News Haseeb: Dragonfly partner Haseeb posted on X, stating that according to the wrench attack database maintained by Jameson, the number of violent attacks (wrench attacks) targeting cryptocurrency users has been continuously increasing over time, and the level of violence in these attacks is also rising. Geographically, the increase in violence is most significant in Western Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Although the absolute number has risen in North America, it remains a relatively safe area.
Data analysis shows that the incidence of violent incidents is positively correlated with the total market capitalization of cryptocurrencies, with a regression analysis R² of 0.45, meaning 45% of the variation in violent incidents can be explained by price factors. However, when standardized by the number of Binance users or per capita wealth holdings, the current risk level has not reached historical highs. The proportion of users attacked in 2015 and 2018 was actually higher than it is now. Nevertheless, the recent per capita attack rate has indeed seen a moderate rebound, reaching levels comparable to 2021. Regarding security risks, Haseeb recommends users take protective measures such as residing in buildings with 24-hour security, not wearing clothing with cryptocurrency logos, using PO Boxes for mail, separating hot wallets from cold wallets, and avoiding publicly sharing real-time locations when attending conferences.
