BNB Chain Releases 2026 Technology Roadmap: Moving Towards 20,000 TPS and Sub-Second Final Determinism

The official statement indicates that 2025 was a key milestone year for BNB Chain, with the network achieving zero downtime throughout the year under real-world high-load conditions, and continued growth in transaction activity, stablecoin size, and real-world assets (RWA). Based on the past year's experience in reliability, speed, cost efficiency, and fairness, BNB Chain has clarified its technological evolution direction for 2026.
In 2025, BNB Chain, through multiple hard forks including Pascal, Lorentz, Maxwell, and Fermi, reduced block time from 3 seconds to 0.45 seconds, and final deterministic time to 1.125 seconds, while increasing network bandwidth to 133 million Gas per second. The highest daily processing capacity throughout the year was approximately 5 trillion Gas, maintaining stable operation even during peak Meme coin trading periods and when BNB reached new highs. During the same period, network TVL increased by 40.5% year-on-year, with a peak daily transaction volume of 31 million transactions, a peak stablecoin market capitalization of approximately $14 billion, and RWA exceeding $1.8 billion.
The roadmap shows that in 2026, BNB Chain will continue to use BSC as its highly optimized EVM transaction chain, advancing its dual-client strategy: using a Geth client to ensure stability and a Reth-based client as its high-performance engine. Core goals include achieving 20,000 TPS, sub-second finality, and further reducing gas costs through software layer optimizations. Simultaneously, the network will introduce a higher-performance execution engine, parallel execution, and parallel storage capabilities to address the challenges of continuously growing state size.
At the infrastructure level, BNB Chain will continue to improve its scalable database architecture, mitigating state bloat through multi-layer sharding and distributed processing. At the application level, it will launch a privacy framework and AI agent middleware to reduce the development complexity of high-level applications. In its longer-term plans, BNB Chain also disclosed that it is designing a next-generation transaction chain, aiming to achieve nearly one million TPS and millisecond-level confirmations between 2026 and 2028, and improving overall decentralization and security through a hybrid on-chain/off-chain computing architecture.
