According to Odaily Planet Daily, North Wales Police are investigating a major cryptocurrency theft. A scammer impersonated a senior British police officer and successfully stole 2.1 million pounds (about 2.8 million US dollars) worth of Bitcoin. Police said this was a "highly targeted and advanced scam" and that the scammers may have obtained the victim's information through a data breach. The scammers claimed to have arrested a suspect who had the victim's ID card, and used this to create panic and urgency, inducing the victim to log in to the cold wallet through the link they provided. Believing that they were following police instructions, the victim entered the mnemonic phrase on a carefully forged website, resulting in the theft of funds. (Cointelegraph)
