A Manhattan jury found Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm guilty of conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmitting business, but failed to reach a verdict on charges of money laundering and sanctions violations.
Crypto organizations such as the DeFi Education Fund and the Blockchain Association expressed disappointment with the ruling, stating it sets a dangerous precedent for open-source software developers and calling on Storm to appeal. Samson Enzer, a partner at CahillNXT, stated that the ruling shows the government failed to adequately prove Storm knew its actions would aid money laundering. Storm himself stated that he would continue to fight the charges. (The Block)
