Odaily Planet Daily reported that according to the Korea Economic Television, South Korea's KB Kookmin Bank submitted a trademark application for stablecoins pegged to the US dollar and the Japanese yen on July 22. The bank had previously taken the lead in applying for trademarks related to the Korean won stablecoin among commercial banks. This application covers a total of 27 trademark combinations, including various forms of combining the bank brand "KB" with the US dollar (USD), the Japanese yen (JPY) and "ST", "S", "C" and other stablecoins, such as "USDKB", "JPYKB", "USDST", "USDC", "JPYH" and "JPYONE". A relevant person in charge of KB Kookmin Bank said: "This registration is a preemptive move to seize the trademark."
