Odaily News Texas Senate Bill SB1498 automatically took effect on June 20, 2025, and will be officially implemented on September 1. The bill authorizes the state government to confiscate digital assets related to specific criminal offenses, including cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, and NFTs, and include them in the civil asset forfeiture system.
In addition, the bill expands the definition of "proceeds" to cover the appreciation of assets from the time they are acquired to the time they are confiscated, and requires that all confiscated assets be transferred to an offline secure wallet supervised by law enforcement agencies or state prosecutors.
