ZachXBT: Unacceptable that Cetus is only willing to offer a $5 million reward to find the hacker
Odaily News Chain detective ZachXBT posted on the X platform that if $5 million is only offered if Cetus successfully helps find the hacker, no capable company will accept this fee structure.
"It takes a lot of time, and basically, the victim doesn't take any upfront risk, but the people trying to help have to pay for their time and energy. It's not fair. These vague "bounties" are harmful to the industry. They look like the team is doing something, but they don't actually incentivize anyone."
A fair compensation structure should both reward time spent on an hourly basis and incentivize successful results through a percentage of success (which is how all the top companies structure their fees).
Furthermore, there are many factors that suggest these bounties are unfair:
What if the attacker lives in an area with a poor legal environment, making arrest difficult?
What if law enforcement is unable to recover all the funds upon arrest?
