Bitcoin developers plan to remove OP_RETURN restrictions in next version

Core contributor Greg Sanders said on GitHub that the current 80-byte limit has failed to effectively prevent data abuse, but instead forced data to be embedded in transactions in a more covert way, increasing the burden on the network. He believes that removing the limit can simplify the UTXO set, improve system consistency, and allow the fee market to naturally adjust demand. Opponents such as developer Luke Dashjr criticized the move as completely crazy, believing that it would encourage the spread of spam and deviate from Bitcoins financial positioning. The adoption rate of the Bitcoin Knots node maintained by it has risen to 5%, and some opinion leaders have called on users to resist upgrades or switch to this version.
