U.S. Treasury Secretary Bensont denies urging Trump to change message on tariffs
Odaily News U.S. Treasury Secretary Jeff Bessant said the Trump administration is open to a deal on reducing tariffs and denied that the market sell-off caused the White House to change its approach. Bessant denied reports that he visited Trump in Florida over the weekend to urge him to change his message on tariffs. "I would say the negotiations were the result of a large number of calls that came in to negotiate," he said. "This has nothing to do with the market." "I think you're going to see some countries that have huge trade deficits come forward soon," Bessant said. "If they come to the negotiating table with solid proposals, I think we can end up with some good deals." Bessant added that even if a deal is reached, some tariffs may remain unchanged. (Jinshi)
