The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) took over and deleted the CFPB website homepage and X platform account
2025-02-08 15:51

Odaily News According to CNN, people familiar with the matter revealed that Russell Vought, director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB), took over as acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) on Friday night, and officials from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by Elon Musk took over and deleted the CFPB's X account on Friday night. Musk tweeted "CFPB RIP" on the X platform on Friday afternoon with a tombstone emoji.
The CFPB's homepage displays a "404 page not found" error message, but the rest of the website is still accessible. Sources said that officials from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have gained administrative access to CFPB systems, including the content management system, website backend, and personnel active directory. The current atmosphere within the CFPB is "full of frustration and anger."
Neither the White House nor the CFPB responded to CNN's request for comment.
