Trump Administration Agrees to Temporarily Limit DOGE’s Access to Treasury Payment Systems
Odaily News U.S. Justice Department prosecutors have agreed to temporarily limit access by staff at Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to information in the Treasury Department’s payment systems.
Previously, a group of union members and retirees sued the Treasury Department, alleging that providing DOGE with access to the federal government's vast payment system and the personal data stored therein violated federal privacy laws.
The Trump administration filed a motion Wednesday evening seeking to sign a proposed order detailing the terms that had been agreed upon. The proposed order states that "Defendants will not provide access to any payment records or payment systems maintained by or within the U.S. Department of the Treasury." The order allows for exceptions, allowing two special government employees within the Treasury Department (Tom Krause and Marco Elez) to access these records "on demand" in the performance of their duties, but such access is limited to "read-only."
